Level 3 Dental Nursing Entry Requirements

Level 3 in Dental Nursing is a nationally recognised qualification designed to prepare you for a career as a dental nurse. Upon successful completion, you will be able to register with the General Dental Council (GDC) and practice as a qualified dental nurse. No prior experience is required to enroll in this NCFE CACHE-accredited program at our Dental Education Lead college.

To get enrolled in the NCFE accredited Dental Nurse Course, you must meet the following entry requirements criteria:

This dental nursing course is designed for learners aged 16 and older. Non-UK residents must have a valid visa that permits them to work in the United Kingdom and a National Insurance Number.


There are no formal entry requirements or academic qualifications needed for this course. However, all learners must be fully vaccinated against Hepatitis B, especially those who will be working in NHS or private healthcare settings that require a placement as part of their training. Additionally, a Criminal Records Declaration (DBS/Disclosure) will be necessary.


To demonstrate competence in both knowledge and skills, learners must be working or on a practical placement throughout the course. It is recommended that students spend a minimum of 16 hours per week in a real work environment.


The duration of the course is 12 months.

A virtual classroom without walls  

Online, one-on-one weekly lessons are conducted in a virtual classroom on our teaching platform. You can study with us from anywhere in the UK without the need to spend time and money on commuting. This is ideal for those looking to combine quality education with a busy lifestyle.

Learners must achieve a pass or distinction in the two external assessment tests to register for the General Dental Council (GDC). 

Multiple-Choice Test

This is a closed-book test and will be 90 minutes and consist of 45 multiple-choice questions.

Observation in Practice

The observation will last for 60 minutes to check knowledge and understanding relating to the skills and behaviours observed. 

Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence 

The learner will use the Portfolio of Evidence as a reference to support their answers. The interview is 40 minutes following the observation in practice, which will access the knowledge, skills, and behaviours identified in the assessment.

On completion of the Dental Nurser End-Point Assessment (EPA), the learner can register with the General Dental Council as a qualified Dental Nurse.
