Level 3 CAVA qualification allows you to become a fully qualified assessor and conduct apprenticeship assessments during the End-Point Assessment (EPA) process.

The Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) is a practical course that teaches you the necessary skills to assess learners’ workplace competency and vocational knowledge within educational settings. You will be a fully qualified assessor in your specialised field upon completion. 

Course Duration and Structure 

You will need to complete three units to obtain your CAVA assessor qualification. 

The course takes around 150 hours to complete.

The course structure includes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. 

Entry requirements 

There are no formal entry requirements for the CAVA course but candidates should have a good level of literacy and numeracy.

During the course, you will learn:

  • Principles and practices of assessment
  • How to assess vocational skills, knowledge, and understanding
  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of assessors
  • How to plan assessment processes
  • How to manage and quality assure assessment processes

CAVA Course Assessment 

This is a competence-based qualification, and learners are required to have access to a physical workplace or classroom setting. 

This course is assessed in two different ways:

  • Unit 1: You will complete written assignments demonstrating your understanding of the theory.
  • Units 2 & 3: You will upload evidence of your assessments, including plans, records, and feedback. You need to assess at least two learners to build your evidence portfolio.
